Ah , the cheese plate. Is there anything better than wine and cheese? You can search the internet and find hundreds of charts paring wine and cheese. Here are a few ideas but as always go with what you like.

White wines go best with soft cheeses with stronger flavors. Red wines go best with hard cheese. That said , here are just a few suggestions.

  • Camembert or Brie with Chardonnay or a Sauvignon Blanc.
  • Parmigiano-Reggiano with a Chianti Classico
  • Gruyere or Jarlsberg with a Dry White or a Light Red
  • Manchego with a Rioja ( what else)
  • A sharp Cheddar paired with a Cabernet
  • Blue with a Zinfandel
  • Cambozola and Merlot

My personal favorite is Taleggio cheese on a slice of grilled ciabatta bread, drizzled with Acacia honey and a cold glass of Pinot Grigio.

The list and combinations of a cheese platter are endless and so are what you serve along with them.

Sliced apples and grapes are wonderful with both Jalsberg and Cheddar.

A good French or Italian bread sliced thin and toasted or grilled.

Assorted crackers.

Tupelo Honey

Fig Jam - goes well with Gorgonzola or Goat Cheese

Reduce balsamic vinegar until it becomes a syrup and drizzle on Parmigiano-Reggiano.
